Zion holds two congregational meetings each year, usually late spring (around May/June) and late fall (around November). Council members are elected during the spring meeting. The fall meeting primarily focuses on the budget review and approval.

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Semi Annual Congregation Meeting Minutes June 3, 2018
Council President, Doug Graham, called the meeting to order.
Doug welcomed the attendees and introduced the members of the Council.
Pastor’s Report, Steve Klemz
Pastor Steve referred to his sermon as being his report.
He thanked a variety of people for their service to the congregation.
Pastor is recruiting 5 people to carry on the work of Stewardship for All Seasons (SAS)
President’s Report, Doug Graham
Doug reminded us of the SAS initiatives that have been established:
Extend children’s programs
Upgrade the physical facilities
Communication development
Organ renovation
Music Camp/VBS, Doug Graham
The Children’s Choir event was a success.
VBS will be held in August. Registration is free.
Building Updates, report from Paul Miller was presented by Leslie Miller

A weekly update will be provided by the contractor for distribution to the congregation.
Phase 2 will include the bell tower. The design is in progress.
Communications Development – Ann Marie Breznay
Please send Ann Marie feedback regarding the new ZELC website.
A new church management system is being implemented. It integrates the directory, offerings, and reporting features. We will be able to login and update our personal information and view our contributions. Counters will enter information directly into the system. There is a phone app for it, too. It is a work in progress.
Treasurer’s Report, Leslie Miller
The 2nd mortgage has been approved. Payments start in October; interest free for 5 months.
The budget was inflated due to calculating the payments from the beginning of the mortgage.
In the fall, an emphasis will be on generating excitement and raising money for the renovations.
Rocky Mountain Synod Assembly Report, Brian Mensinger
Bishop Gonia was re-elected.
ELCA is taking a role in looking at current issues including: gun violence & prevention; treatment of women; and social justice.
ZELC will be talking about these issues during Adult Bible Study the first and last Sundays of the Sunday School year.
Lisa & Brian Mensinger will be ambassadors who deliver information from the Synod to ZELC.
Call for Council member nominations – None received. The motion to adjourn was made by Jane Erdahl and seconded by Nettie Priet.
April 2018 special meeting
A special congregational meeting was held on Sunday, April 22nd. A seconded motion from church council was presented to the congregation to increase the loan amount by $70,000 for the anticipated total construction budget of $325,000. Questions were invited and member Mike Cena asked for ‘call to question’ and an immediate vote was taken. The motion passed with one member voting against the motion. The meeting adjourned at Noon.
Fall 2017 meeting recap
The fall 2017 meeting was held on Sunday, November 19. Highlights from that meeting are below, and full minutes can be found here: - Doug presented a motion from the council to engage in the 2nd mortgage of $250,000, 10- year term, 3.5% APY, with monthly payments of $2500 ($30,000 annually). Motion seconded. Call for questions (none). Call for vote: vote is unanimous and motion carries and passes with no objections and none abstaining. - Doug presented a motion from the council to adopt the 2018 budget as presented. Motion seconded. Call for questions (none). Call for vote: vote is unanimous and motion carries and passes with no objections and none abstaining. - Doug motions to allow council to secure and approve names to be voting members for the upcoming Rocky Mountain Synod conference in Westminster, CO, May 3-5, 2018. Motion seconded. Call for vote: vote is unanimous and motion carries and passes with no objections and none abstaining. There are no current volunteers or nominations at this time. - Thank you to Fred Strohacker and Leslie Miller for their work on the 1960 scholarship fund that was presented to Horizonte Learning Center. Funds totaling $12,807.87 were distributed and gifted.
