DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRIES they/them Email Kylie Kylie is ZELC’s Director of Youth and Family Ministries. Kylie grew up exploring the outdoors in Nixyáawii (the place of many springs), the ancestral land of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla tribes that is now known as Eastern Oregon. They now make their home along with their spouse, child, a pitbull pup in Soónkhani (many houses), the ancestral land of the Ute, Goshute, and Eastern Shoshone tribes that is now known as the Salt Lake Valley. Kylie has an educational and professional background in Christian leadership and spiritual development, environmental education, and social justice. They are particularly called to create inclusive spaces for people from marginalized backgrounds. They worked for Tracy Aviary for the past decade, harnessing the healing power of community and the outdoors to create and facilitate education programs such as summer camps for youth experiencing homelessness, enrichment classes for youth-in-custody, and outdoor recreation groups for queer folx. They didn’t grow up Lutheran, but joined the tradition after discovering a community that shared their belief in grace through faith, commitment to radical hospitality, and enduring love of casseroles. They enjoy gardening, birding, quilting, and women’s basketball. |
